Exhibition History"Surrealish: The Absurd and Unexpected," KIA Galleries 2 & 5 (June 4 - September 11, 2022)Label Text"There are at least three images in this exhibition that have a chess and/or checkerboard motif in them. Why do you think that imagery is popular in Surreal art? Is it a nod to the fantastical 1871 tale by Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking Glass, the sequel to the author’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865)? Does it allude to the absurdity of life, suggesting that life is a game? Is it an homage to Dada artist and chess enthusiast Marcel Duchamp, whose work certainly had an influence on Surreal art?" [from the exhibition Surrealish: The Absurd and Unexpected, 2022]There are no works to discover for this record.
