"Rhythmic Vitality: Six Princliples of Chinese Painting," KIA Joy Light Gallery of Asian Art (December 9, 2017 - March 25, 2018)Label TextThis work was painted in the style of Shen Zhou (Chinese, 1427-1509). Examination of the painting, the collectors' seals, and inscriptions suggest that it is a copy made by an unidentified artist of the late 18th or early 19th century. This painting may have been painted as a means of studying the work of a master, or possibly as a forgery, with the intention to deceive a buyer. Regardless of the artist's or a subsequent owner's intention, this work does effectively capture the style of Shen Zhou.
