Exhibition History"Photo Affinities," KIA Long Gallery (June 2000 - Jan. 2001) (cf 1966/7.111.2). "Photo Affinities," Art Center of Battle Creek (Jan. 6 - Mar. 4, 2003). Label TextThis photograph and its companion piece, "Murray Hart, Age 18" present a very sympathetic record of youth and young manhood. A boy, who is seen as a cheerful and open-faced adolescent in one picture, is shown in the next as a reserved, though smiling, adult. This record of transition takes on overtones of genuine momento mori if we know that Murray Hart was killed just months after the second photograph was made in the battle for Mindanao in the Phillipines. The photographer was his father.
