"Passion on Paper: Masterly Prints from the KIA Collection," March 17 - July 15, 2018, Groos Gallery.Label Text"March is an iconic example of American lithography at its best by one of the country’s leading regional artists. Wood made only nineteen lithographs in his life, all between 1937 and 1941, and each possesses the same meticulous craftsmanship and sophisticated design as this print. The landscape bursts with the approach of spring and potential bounty, one of the oldest subjects in the history of art. Wood enriched the interplay of patterns between the rolling plains and deeply furrowed rows with a dense, tightly controlled, swirling drawing style. His preference to print in a light black ink lends a light breeziness to his vision—a sun-drenched, windswept slice of the American Midwest (written by Nancy Sojka for Passion on Paper: Masterly Prints from the KIA Collection, 2018)."
