"Passion on Paper: Masterly Prints from the KIA Collection," March 17 - July 15, 2018, Groos GalleryLabel Text"Dosamantes was an influential educator and artist-activist who hoped to promote social changes in Mexico through art. The indigenous people of Mexico served as his inspiration and he worked tirelessly to promote their causes in an attempt to improve the quality of their lives. His service as an emissary on cultural missions took him to many states including Oaxaca and the Yucatan where he worked among the Maya Indians in 1941. In Mayan Trio, he directed his sharp-edged lithographic style to celebrate the distinctive braids and dress of the Yalaltecan women. The popularity of the print resulted in several editions. It was published under different titles including a 1946 edition by Associated American Artists, New York, as Women of Oaxaca (written by Nancy Sojka for Passion on Paper: Masterly Prints in the KIA Collection, 2018)
