This impressive vessel was created by assembling five separate, wheel-thrown and hand-built sections. The base (1) and “beehive” shaped body (2) support a short, sturdy cylinder (3), a taller cylinder (4), and the rim (5). The unusual black mat glaze with cobalt accents is highlighted by Reitz’s richly textured surface and dynamic vessel shape. Form #1 is an excellent example of the artist’s mature work.
