Exhibition History"Abstractions by Modern Masters: Prints And Sculpture from the Permanent Collection," KIA School Commons (Nov. 2000). "Passion on Paper: Masterly Prints from the KIA Collection," March 17 - July 15, 2018, Groos Gallery.Label Text"In the mid-1950s, a preoccupying theme appeared in Gottlieb’s painting and prints. He became fascinated with balancing related shapes in vast fields of space. Over a number of years he continually refined this compositional formula, which includes two forms of roughly equal size, one above the other. They do not touch but are somehow bound together. Within this structural format Gottlieb experimented with color relationships and controlled mark-making to learn about the effects they brought to the expressive power of the image (written by Nancy Sojka for Passion on Paper: Masterly Prints from the KIA Collections, 2018)."
