She must have appeared that way to staff at The Upjohn Company, who selected this work to appear in an advertisement.
The Interior was one of many non-commissioned paintings purchased by The Upjohn Company, which manufactured prescription drugs in Kalamazoo. In an advertising campaign (1945-1949), the company used works of art to illustrate particular health messages and developments in the field of medicine. These ads appeared in such popular publications as The Saturday Evening Post, TIME, and LIFE magazines.
