"The American Experience: Prints and Drawings, 1900-1946," KIA Long Gallery (2002).Label TextBaer first became famous during World War II as an artist-correspondent in the South Pacific. He later developed a reputation as an author and illustrator of children’s books. School’s Out, typical of Baer’s lively and appealing drawing style, is influenced by the artist’s recollections of a series of rather strict “schoolmarms.” The order in these rows of innocent-looking children is achieved by the unfailing and rigid supervision of their teacher.
