Label TextMoses Soyer, along with his twin brother, Raphael, were Jews exiled from imperial Russia to the United States where they grew to become well-known realist painters. This quiet portrait of a young girl is a beautiful example of the qualities of "love, tenderness, and intimacy" which Soyer cherished in his paintings.
