Exhibition History"Surrealish: The Absurd and Unexpected," KIA Galleries 2 & 5 (June 4 - September 11, 2022)Label Text"Hanuman Kambli created this etching when he was visiting Western Michigan University as a Fulbright Visiting Artist. Kambli’s work demonstrates both skilled printmaking and painterly techniques. His etchings are often dark and full of emotive, gestural lines, and often contain symbols found throughout his Indian culture. In an interview while visiting Kalamazoo, Kambli explained that he also sought inspiration from the many places he has visited and that he incorporated those ideas into works that rely heavily on Indian symbolism and motifs. Kambli’s work often brings attention to environmental concerns. Perhaps Michigan’s many waterways and economic reliance on the aquatic ecosystem led Kambli to create an image of fish."
