Exhibition History"Passion on Paper: Masterly Prints from the KIA Collection," March 17 - July 15, 2018, Groos Gallery. "Resilience: African American Artists as Agents of Change," at the KIA (September 14, 2019 - February 16, 2020)Label Text"This print is one of a series of eight screenprints for a book project commissioned by the Limited Editions Club, New York. The book, The First Book of Moses Called Genesis, is also in the KIA collection. It includes all eight images integrated with text from the King James version of the Bible. Each print in the series illustrates one of the days of Creation as described in the Book of Genesis. Lawrence invoked memories of his boyhood for the scenes. He recalled hearing the Biblical stories as sermons delivered in Harlem’s Abyssinian Baptist Church. The words of the animated preacher are transformed into the vivid views framed by the arched windows of the church (written by Nancy Sojka for Passion on Paper: Masterly Prints from the KIA Collection),"
