Exhibition History"Perspectives on Place: Artists' Visions of Michigan's Land and Lakes," KIA Nay Gallery (June 6 - Sept. 7, 2008). Label TextMany of Christopher Schneiter's works present the human faces of Michigan. In Max and Helen, we see a tribute to the strong agricultural base of the state's "fruit belt." While many of the Midwest's family farms are disappearing, Max and Helen's roadside fruit stand persists as a reminder of an agricultural past which, deliciously, still exists in this corner of Michigan. Max and Helen is part of a collaborative photographic project Christopher Schneiter completed in 1982-84 with Gary Cialdella. Their Michigan Shoreline Project, funded by the Michigan Humanities Council, documented the natural and human features of the Lake Michigan coast from New Buffalo to Ludington.
