Round and Round, Ethel Denton Groos Gallery, November 4, 2017 - March 4, 2018Label TextJennifer Bartlett’s subjects are relatively mundane—simple houses and yards. However, she enlivens them by integrating both abstract and representational aspects. Grid-like patterns that function as rigid structures in prints by other artists, such as Vasarely (on view), take on an expressionistic playfulness in Bartlett’s work. The aggregate visual effect of her colorful dots can also be linked to the efforts of Impressionist and Pointillist artists.
