Exhibition History"Passion on Paper: Masterly Prints from the KIA Collection," March 17 - July 15, 2018, Groos Gallery.Label Text"Hartigan was invited by Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) during one of its first years of operation to make prints. In 1960, ULAE had barely crafted a mission but today it is one
of the world’s great printer/publishers of fine art prints.
Hartigan had not made lithographs before she delved into this project. We can view this print as a journey of experimentation and discovery. The variety of marks we see are evidence of the artist using every tool at her disposal to draw, brush, and scrape a full range of effects onto her stone. The subject is inspired by a poem, The Hero Leaves His Ship, authored by her friend, Barbara Guest. Hartigan produced four lithographs for this project. This is the second print of the series (written by Nancy Sojka for Passion on Paper: Masterly Prints from the KIA Collection, 2018)."
