Label TextClaes Oldenburg’s focus on household objects and icons of American popular culture, such as Mickey Mouse, allies him with the Pop Art movement. Oldenburg is widely recognized today for humorously re-imagining commonplace objects as sculptures of monumental size and in unconventional colors and materials. Plate 22 offers a glimpse of Oldenburg at work, toying with a form’s conventional shape, and even accentuating the famous mouse’s cartoonish charm.
