"2024 West Michigan Area Show - Celebration of Purchase Prize winners in honor of KIA's 100th Anniversary," KIA Gallery 4 (May 3 - August 18, 2024)Label Text"In this painting, Kalamazoo artist Doug Dykehouse has filled a refrigerator with not only food and drink but also technology and VHS tapes, jewelry, and shoes. Multiple sets of arms grasp from the void behind, desperately clinging to the appliance—filled with sustenance and status symbols—which opens up to a vast seascape.
About Obsession Dykehouse has said, “It’s a metaphor for all of our possessions and all the things we value and take comfort in and just beyond that door, we can access, if we choose, nature. Something really quite wonderful that’s not all busy and plastic.”"
