The crackling seen throughout the blue glaze is a desired effect caused by the rapid cooling of the work after firing, combined with a low-silica glaze. Blue was an appropriate color choice for this vase, which depicts a common yin-yang symbol at the center with trigrams (bagua) along the top and bottom. The trigrams seen on this side represent
