Label TextLouis Lozowick spent his most influential years in Europe, notably in Berlin during the early 1920s. While there, Losowick would have witnessed the prevailing artistic styles and ideas associated with Constructivism, De Stijl, and the Bauhaus. In these similar, yet different artistic movements, strong lines, basic colors, and angular planes were used to create geometric compositions. Lozowick’s exposure, combined with American influences, which focused on modern city living, resulted in the artist becoming well known for his prints full of repeating and movement-filled forms, which depicted the geometric architecture of modern life in America.
In Tanks #2 (Steel Plant), Lozowick uses this artistic approach to create its composition. However, like Evergood, the artist presents his interest in depicting the various forms of labor and plants cropping up across the nation to support America’s growing industrialization movement.
