Label TextAfter studying art history in the US at Western Michigan University, Hideaki Miyamura returned to Japan to study pottery and served as an apprentice to a master potter in Yamanashi, Japan. Miyamura focused his work on innovating ceramic glazes. By creating numerous formulas and performing thousands of experiments, Miyamura worked to achieve a style reminiscent of ancient Chinese black-glazed yohen tenmoku tea bowls, which recalls “a clear night’s endless sky” or even the depths of the ocean.
