Michael CherneyAmerican, 1969
Michael Cherney (b. 1969) is also known as Qiu Mai, or “Autumn Wheat.” Born in New York, he fell in love with the Chinese language and moved to Beijing in 1991. Cherney has been creating photographic works inspired by Chinese art history since the early ’90s. You can find his exquisitely crafted scrolls, books, and albums in the permanent collections of such institutions as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Getty Research Institute, the Princeton University Art Museum, and the Arthur M. Sackler Museum at Harvard University
