Dan GiancasproAmerican, 1992

Dan Giancaspro was born into an indigenous culture called Ka-Dong, in Quang Nam, Vietnam. His family was considered to be the leaders of their tribe. At six years old, his grandfather, grandmother, mother, and father passed away as the result of a nature disaster, leaving him and seven of his siblings behind. He lived in the forest for two years with one of his brothers before being sent to an orphanage. After living in the orphanage for eight years, he was adopted at the age of 14 by an American family and moved to the US.

Giancaspro received this BFA from Western Michigan University and was part of the 2019 Kirk Newman Art School Residency Program.

Giancaspro is a jeweler by trade and his metal working skills are present in his sculptures. His work combines his present environment with his indigenous background to create pieces that speak a sense of community past and present. His works are often imbued with symbolism of religion and indigenous culture.
