Label TextKiyoshi Saito was one of the first sosaku-hanga artists to receive international recognition after World War II. A self-taught artist, he admired the European artists Edvard Munch and Paul Gauguin. At the same time, Saito felt a deep connection to his native country. He used woodblock printing techniques to create images with bold, expressive shapes rather than realistic detail.
