"Sosaku Hanga: Creative Printmaking in Japan," Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Joy Light Gallery of Asian Art (June 12 - September 5, 2021)Label Text"Kurosaki uses traditional woodblock print techniques, but produces Western-influenced abstractions. Dramatic shading defines three-dimensional, geometric forms in compositions that seem vaguely theatrical. As a sōsaku hanga artist, Kurosaki used chiaroscuro effects (contrasting light and shadow), along with a wide range of colors, to distance his work from traditional Japanese styles and subjects. During the 1960s and 70s, the artist was known for creating images like Endless Night which uses bold, saturated colors and imagery." [Sosaku Hanga Exhibition, 2021]
